ISDN 2/30 - Digital Lines

There are two types of digital lines, ISDN2e and ISDN30e. The main differences are based on the number of lines that are required. ISDN2e comes in pairs of lines while ISDN30e comes in fibre cable with a min of 8 lines/channels and a max of 30 lines/channels on each connection.

What are the benefits of ISDN digital lines over traditional analogue exchange lines?

There are many, some examples are :-

  • Route all your lines through the telephone system, including fax machines, direct  lines and modems. This would reduce the number of lines that are rented and enable all calls to be routed over the Least Cost Route. (See Least Cost Routing section)

  • Each handset/ device will have its own unique direct telephone number (DDI) meaning callers can ring their contact in an organisation directly without having to waste an operators time routing regular callers around the system.

  • On the display of the handset the incoming telephone number or name of the Telephones Channel Comms ISDNcaller would appear before being answered (just like on a mobile phone).

This connects voice-messages with all other forms of messages, such as email and fax-mail in one place. You can then either access these messages via a PC or telephone.

If you are for example, driving back from a meeting to the office, you would be able to listen to your voice messages or have your emails read to you. You can then decide whether to reply or forward to a colleague to deal with in your absence or delete Telephones Channel Comms unified messagingit. This all integrates with your exchange server

    • Networking Offices
    • Home workers
    • Hard / soft phones

This is a technology that converts your voice to a data language and allows calls to be routed over any data network (subject to certain quality issues). There are three possible benefits of this technology to you as a company :-

    • You are now able very inexpensively to connect your various offices together so they operate as one system either over a fixed link using your existing Wide Area Network (WAN) or using ASDL / Broadband.

    • Home workers who now only need ASDL at home can have an IP extension and operate in EXACTLY the same way as if they were in the office.

    • Sharing your Local Area Network (LAN) with IP phones meaning halving Telephones Channel Comms voice over internet protocolthe number of data sockets required in your building.
